If you knew that the Studio Ghibli animator, Hayao Miyazaki, felt dismayed by OpenAI completely mimicking his art style and using it to grow their product without permission or compensation, would it bother you? Would you still use it? I haven't formed a strong opinion, just curious on everyone's thoughts.

i was JUST reading about this in Kyla Scanlon's newsletter. on one hand, i don't love companies training AI on art without artists' permission. on the other hand, i believe that art simply does not belong to an artist once it's in the world (whether we like it or not). https://warpcast.com/sterschuyler/0x4de05128

Here's my thoughts/questions: How many people fell in love with Miyazaki's art style not just because of the style but because of the movies and stories that went along with it? Do people love the Ghiblification because it helps them recall those same emotions and feel like part of his vision/art? If so, how would they feel if they knew he felt dismayed by the generative recreation without his permission? Should OpenAI put a disclaimer that none of this was done with his permission and they don't know that he actually would be okay with it, and they're in no way compensating him? If they did, how might that impact usage?
