Social graph is permanent and reusable, content is ephemeral and disposable 

Surprised that we don’t leverage this difference more when building decentralised social networks

Farcaster hubs could be a lot more efficient if they didn’t have to permanently store all the content on the network

💯 Also, IMO FC doesn't properly leverage the fact that most content creators are the ones most incentivized to store theirs own historical content. This is one aspect that atproto got right with the PDS. I'd ❤️ to see a hybrid where hubs function as the hot cache of weekly content, with historical content falling back to a PDS.

It’s not a problem yet, but nobody is going to run a hub if it requires a data center (like any at-scale social platform does)

Storage feels like it shouldn’t be as big a problem though tbh

Many other apps on the internet store literally 10000x more data

Kind of. You rent a unit of storage which lets you store a fixed amount of casts/links/reactions/user data messages as long as you pay for storage. If you exceed your storage limit data gets pruned FIFO

So it’s permanent under the assumption that you continue paying rent

I still thought state expiry was in the spec? I guess it's somewhat in limbo
