passkeys are the new hotness, for a reason — the authentication experience with passkeys is so smooth and easy. however, for wallet durability it's important to choose the right passkey option! (thanks @labadie.eth for "wallet durability," useful term) in the latest episode of /splits x onchain ecosystem, I take Coinbase Smart Wallet for a whirl and run into some tricky issues with passkeys @wilsoncusack was kind enough to review this post and help me get the details correct 🙏 https://splits.org/blog/coinbase-smart-wallet-passkeys/

Great breakdown! IMO optimizing for minimal signup friction makes a lot of sense for a product like Smart Wallet, especially when coupled with opportunities to improve durability later on in the user experience. Surprised Coinbase hasn't shipped more user-friendly recovery options like email or SMS.

similar issue when onboarding a friend with smart wallet on zora. when he imported that wallet address to Rainbow on desktop we realised he hadn't written it down and had to go into the passkey mgt. weeds on his Mac. Felt like defeating the purpose...
