honestly tho, traders are not builders. one is value extractive and one is value generative (or attempts to be). "value extractive" is an objective statement, not a moral judgment.

traders are value extractive, and also trading is value generative - mostly for builders but also for other traders, LPs, wallets, ecosystems, creators traders are not builders, though increasingly they are also creators. in crypto the most engaging content seems to come from traders posting about trading

Not all network participants are builders and that is ok. We love all of our children.

i'd argue that traders are net neutral extractive or even value additive. traders generate LP fees that fund a lot of building token launchers and the people deploying tokens are much more extractive on net we can agree that traders are not builders

if a speculator puts up $ on a *sustainable* thing that grows over time, everyone is better off problem ofc is that most things are not sustainable. and crypto has made it the norm to bet on short term plays

Agree they aren’t builders and it’s possible for them to add value as well as extract. For instance if they buy into a builder’s project they can help create a situation where a builder can accomplish something they wouldn’t be able to otherwise.

I understand it from the perspective of providing liquidity to the onchain economy but, yeah, I do agree that most of the time they attempt to be extractive

Trading is the byproduct of liquidity's volatility, they just surf the wave. Builders simply build with the hope the tide raises them and doesn't flush them.

I can make a good argument that builders in crypto are more extractive than traders - which seem to buy and pump even dog shit to billions in mcap ‘ provide builders runway

It absolutely depends on the tokenomics. You can design a token where builders extract from investors, you can design a token where investors and more or less extractive from builders. It's all tokenomics. Always has been.
