i've respected Elon a lot since his Wired interview in 2008 (still one of the most inspirational ive ever seen) but he's taking big self inflicted Ls this week https://www.wired.com/2008/08/musk-qa/ https://i.imgur.com/sG0oJYq.png

I think we need to apply some of said patience in judging his job at Twitter. He’s been there for 6 weeks.

Yeh but he told anybody who’d listen how smart he was and would fix it, quickly. The height of hubris is being amazing at thing X (he’s an incredible mechanical engineering visionary) and just assuming you’ll also be amazing at thing Y without any struggles or learning curve.

I don’t think he just assumed he would be amazing at it, but I do think he assumed he could do it better than the old management team. And after reading these twitter files, I completely agree. And his willingness to go back on his decisions suggests he recognizes the learning curve.

Better how? The twitter files revealed the company's senior team members (responsible for these decisions) debating suspensions and bans in line with evolving information and physical events. Decisions are now made at the whim of the specific sensitivities of the ceo.

He posted a poll asking if he should go back on his decision. 59% of votes said he should, and so now he is unsuspending them. The “whim” part is reflexive of him bringing back startup culture to Twitter. Elon is listening and willing to be judged which is uncommon in billion dollar companies.

he posted an initial poll, didn't get the result he wanted. posted again, got the same result, and still stalled on unsuspending because he believed they needed a minimum amount of time away.
