Everyone - go to your maps and report an issue. This is unacceptable and ridiculous. Don’t go silently into this insanity.

As somebody in the biz (not gmaps), we do not decide what things are named. We just compile various official sources and ingest them into the map data. Very, VERY, rarely do we manually decide what things should be called. I have no love for trump or google, but what exactly should google do in this situation?

Something. This is only happening because someone in power said it needed to happened and that isn’t right. Who is this helping. A Lakota Dakota designer told me once that if everyday things reflected an indigenous perspective, Google would rename Devil’s lake to Spirit Lake. Devil was how the English interpreted the meaning of the Lakota word but a closer interpretation would have been Spirit. She gave this type of talks at Google and why did nothing happened?

So, what you’re saying is Trump could make an EO and change the name of any place in the world and google would change that on maps accessed in the US?
