Can shame actually be a good thing?  It's like a subconscious indicator that our behavior isn't acceptable or in line with our morals/values.  I think any being imbued with consciousness can feel shame.  Dogs, for example can feel shame when their behavior isn't pleasing to their owner.  That shame is a guide towards better relationships...Knowing what NOT to do in order to improve our sociability.

I would argue that it's actually essential for social development.

But when it stems from self hatred, self consciousness, or beratement; it can consume us and destroy our confidence. 

May all beings be free from that type of shame!!!!!!!!!!
