Training for my first half marathon. I’ve got about four months. Any advice from experienced runners? Things you wished you knew before you ran your first marathon / half marathon?

controversial take - run 5km repeats instead of trying to constantly up the miles (just do longer run 1x/week) Running shorter distances faster and faster builds your lung capacity and ability to run for longer

Thank you for the tip :) speed work definitely seems important and will incorporate that once I feel more comfortable with my base / have increased mileage a bit.

the other thing is to learn running technique. most people think they automatically know how to do it but end up moving v inefficiently and so wasting energy (and more likely to get injured). it's worth spending some time - when I started my form was terrible and I didn't know
