Golden Gai in Shinjuku has tens of bars in a super small neighborhood. Really fun for an evening of wandering around and having some drinks.

If you make it to Kyoto, you have a lovely half-day in Arashiyama. Put your name down in the morning for a spot at Steak Otsuka. Explore the Bamboo forest and proximate Unesco world heritage sites until it's your time to have some of the best beef you'll ever taste.
