It’s been some time since I’ve seriously started trying to create music (previous time was a live band). I would love to get into more electronic music creation and become more familiar with Ableton and music production in general. Has anyone bought any online courses that they would recommend ?

in many cases IRL > online but assuming it must be online, maybe first check your learning pattern. is it more of a poiesis, or do you like to follow along? studio-hour type for the former. structured for the latter if you want a directory of courses to check and buy, ironically, pirate sites work best wrt discovery.

Yeah I would love to do irl but unfortunately not close to anywhere and have to fit learning in around work and family life. I generally work better by following along with opportunities to then pause to experiment with the things I’ve just learnt.

hmm, there's also the path where you buy hardware that comes with a generally supportive forum ex. monome

Yeah I just bought a push 3 recently so not looking for more gear just yet but again it’s tied to Ableton.

I think it'd motivate you more to focus on a push course to the point where you are actually loving at least a segment or loop or moment created on push.

Oh really I feel like they are so closely tied to each other that they were kind of just extensions hence why I thought learning Ableton would be better. I’ve also only found 1 push 3 course that’s due to come out soon

I used to owned push 1 and while ableton did help post-wise I wish I had learned push enough to feel like push could be an independent instrument. such that the flow and what feels alive in the creation can be captured and feeds back to what you love about doing music

Yeah agree with that and kind of why I bought the push to use it as a standalone device but I do feel I’m missing some fundamentals I need to learn first tbh

that's true. I didn't inquire how much you know about ableton 😬 fundamentals are almost a false topic as tracks can be made in all sorts of ways. I'll just push (ha) you to do a 10-minute practice by connecting your push to an instrument track with any random instrument and hit record. see what comes out.
