I don’t understand who he is trying to prove himself to. One other thing that bothered me in that essay was how he said im in these signal group chats for DOGE, i talked to 100+ deep tech founders whatever. I know it’s probably habit by now to signal but this doesn’t make me anymore confident that he will find what he is looking for. And it actually makes me pity him. The last part is all of these founders boosting the blog. I acknowledge his vulnerability and that this is a normal human thing to go through. Coupled with his extreme success though, I’m surprised that no one around him has told him that he just needs some more love in his life - love for himself, maybe partner, friends, kids etc.

I was so infuriated and disgusted by the apparent narcissism that pity took a back seat. Nothing is worth doing to him unless it leads to clout. It’s fucking gross lol

There are stark differences between Calvin’s and Vinay’s post. I think they are similar people in different moments of time. I see it in the title “Considering a difficult year” and “I am rich and I have no idea ..”. Calvin’s focus is on his difficult year. Vinay’s focus is on .. well.. but they both are fighting internal hardship. Calvin and his piece of art “Give me a sign” of someone taking out the garbage and the beauty in mundane, vs. Vinay’s difficult physical trek up a mountain. Beauty in the ordinary vs. beauty in the extraordinary. The stark difference to me is where they look to affirm their values. Calvin is looking at books, quotes, art, where Vinay is looking towards other founders, metrics, numbers etc. I hope one day Vinay becomes more like Calvin. But I sense they are searching for the same thing, in their own way
