As many ppl who do creative work I like to read biographies of great writers and painters etc hoping to figure out what the secret is . . . and it is work ethics. I wish it was something more romantic. But it is work ethics.

trauma is definitely a powerful motivator. I'd like to believe there are other, more positive possibilities too but .. there's also a bit of like "you become a well-adjusted, loving person and then why are you working 100h/wk by yourself?"
