Recap of this past market: - I was really in my head. I’m not usually in my head but today was objectively hard. Had difficult customers. - Someone asked me why I didn’t do the scents side by side instead of stacked ontop inside my jar. I had to turn it sideways and explain to them that it was impossible to pour a candle like that, also if both scents were side by side they’d still only get 1? - One of the other vendors at the market told me she only made $30 after 6 hours of work 😭 I felt so bad for her. And you know what she used her $30 on? A /humankind candle! That was so sweet of her. Usually I give vendors 10% off but she was so lovely I gave her 15% off. - I lent my vendor neighbour change. At first I was a bit hesitant because I didn’t know him, but he surprised me with this wonderful drawing of me and my employee.

- I spilled my hojicha latte all over my white tablecloth and ruined a bunch of inventory. Soured my mood but I ended up giving the tablecloth to my other vendor neighbour, a super talented designer who thrifts materials and upcycles it into clothing. I saw him sell a jacket for $500 the first day and then the handbag for $300 the next day to the same customer. Really amazed me at the type of relationship he had w his customers - I sense I was tough on my employee because I was stressed. I wasn’t rude with her, but I did give a lot of feedback. Halfway through we broke even and by the end of the night we reached our sales goal. I doubled down on the encouragements after I recognized I was stressed. - Learning that there will always be one customer who hates my product. Some customers make these gross faces after smelling my candles 😩

- Spoke near the end with a brother duo for 30-45 min. They both said they were not candle people until my employee warmed them up. They called their friend on FaceTime so that my employee could pitch them the candles and they could buy it on behalf of their friend, who is getting married. My employee pitched it as a scent to remember their wedding. - Pays to be nice. I was the last person at the gallery last night along with the gallery manager, we were chatting and she gave me a big hug at the end. The next day she let me set up early!

Learning that there will always be people who don’t resonate with your product is so true. It also makes me sad because I put so much love into my polishes 😔. But remember, there are so many MORE people who love your products and support Humankind!! 🧡
