It’s awesome there’s a competitive open source model! It’s scaring American companies. Meta is annoyed they’re behind because THEY were going to be the OSS company. Many American AI people are trying to FUD it by saying the low compute cost is propaganda and China has a bunch of smuggled chips so it isn’t actually that compute cheap. Orgs like hugging face are trying to replicate the results so we’ll see.

ty rubi! so it seems like although it is a big improvement, we (non-experts) are overestimating impact on american AI companies since all of this is just part of the process to continue to improve? (also a lot of claims are still tbd)
