If one were to build an API for venture capital, what would it include? (This question is intentionally broad)

i love how some of these answers are diametrically opposed depending on if it's an API for founders or VCs

2-way if-this-then-that fund commitments, proofs, deployments & liquidation votes on contract-breaking events also models that account for follow-on inertia vs normalized impact potential ...also tumblers to make international investing easier

Crunchbase but API first. A way to explore the knowledge graph of entities (founders, companies, investors, ...) and empower anyone to do their own analysis. Maybe add global dashboards like Dune analytics to bootstrap usage.

it gets a lot more interesting if company formation changes towards a DAO-type model that has liquidity for all participants from the start (including employees)

Depends on your goals. If you want to just replicate the existing VC dynamics then your primary vp could be making signing documents, wiring money, etc. seamless. However, there's probably a bigger opportunity in changing the dynamics away from FOMO and psych warfare.

Transparent earnings. Vcs are celebrating their wins and hiding their losses. This should be transparent to really see the success.

A bit out there πŸ’‘ - All capital is locked behind milestones, very transparent (helps fund boost IRR too ;)) - API call to unlock next tranche of funding - Funding can be broken down into units and securitized, bundled and traded (enables secondaries) - Data is ofc portable

- list of all companies raising with the generalized stats (eval, prev. rounds, whatever angel.co shows) - i wonder if most vc's would like anonymity when participating in rounds (e.g. if their reputation is bad they'd want to hide it) - verification of interest in a venture
