FID vs. OpenRank "Engagement" Ranking: - https://dune.com/queries/3901607 - *ridiculously heavily* skewed towards the earliest users of Farcast - Why? Because the algorithm starts off by selecting a trusted group of core users based on metrics heavily biased in favor of early users (see https://docs.openrank.com/integrations/farcaster/ranking-strategies-on-farcaster). - early users receive multiple boosts to engagement due to similar algorithms being used everywhere (e.g. Power Badge, Degen Tips), which results in a positive feedback loop. FID vs. Follower Count: - https://dune.com/queries/3901623/6557858 - nearly impossible for users who registered after a certain point to create the mega followings of the earliest users Why not use first cast or registration date? Dune's Neynar data doesn't have this <= 2023-09. If anybody has an alternative data source I can use on Dune, it would be much appreciated. Next: I investigate the degree of cliquiness in early users, if anybody is interested?

1- is there a good ratio for following/follower? and what ratios are considered bad ones? 2- Also as a normal account registered on feb 2024, a lot of the first follower were banned later and lost their powerbadge, does this affect my account now? 3- if i go to followers on mobile app i will find a group of account that didn't interact with since a while, it is better to unfollow? sorry for lot of questions and appreciate your reply

Not exactly on topic but what’s your opinion on Openrank vs Airstack’s Social capital score?

The thing is, follower count is not engagement. @itsbasil made a really good cast regarding this the other day, where their account is just too cluttered with a high following with nowhere near engagement from that number. This chart shows it well. Some aberration on the auto follower function that ended up cluttering early fids with all sorts of bots and 1 day life span users etc. In the end, a high following count on a low fid doesn’t mean much engagement wise. Just a meaningless number.

I'm ranked 217 now and my FID is 336k. I agree it has flaws but it's one of the best things that happened to shape social behavior for the best. Giveaways and low-effort casts dropped considerably considering previous seasons.

The OPENRANK SEED only having Farcaster OGs was pretty obvious, so I'm not surprised by these results... 🫠 Master, thank you for the amazing data.😆

My fid is high, around 356k. I registered in Warpcast at the end of February 2024. Before openrank, my rank was 13k. After openrank, I dropped to 850 and gradually reached 1139, which is the current one. Although I feel that the change benefits me, I don't see any proximity in being able to obtain the powerbadge or increase my engagement, no matter how attractive my content is or not. What you say in your analysis just confirms the suspicion of many and I think it should change to give everyone the opportunity to achieve it through their efforts.

Our links data in @dune.eth is weird btw. e.g. you have batches of multiple follows within 0ms. timestamp is before created_at... https://dune.com/queries/3902281?fid_n26d66=426045 What do you think that caused those, hub sync issues? new autofollows? Does this affect all other metrics we create from @dune.eth?

These two charts are excellent studies that indeed illustrate some issues. Regarding the number of followers, early adopters do experience the Matthew effect. But we know that a significant portion of their followers are bots that automatically follow them. We can also see that many people with a large number of followers do not receive much interaction. As for the OpenRank rankings, the charts clearly show that those who joined later (with larger FID) still have a significant chance of achieving higher OpenRank rankings. However, early adopters with high OpenRank are more prevalent and densely clustered. This is largely because most early adopters were invited by Dan, which effectively acted as a manual selection process. After permissless registration, the proportion of high-quality users naturally declined. Thanks for your work 🫡 3000 $DEGEN
