and people call me doomer! Extraction may be inevitable but is it desirable or sustainable? I agree the optimal amount of all bad things is nonzero but Many things were until they weren’t. Leaded gasoline was profitable and widespread and yet we somehow got it together to stop doing that

Controversial but I believe Weber that the cultural fuel of capitalism was the Protestant work ethic Catholics were slower to industrialize for this reason Unfortunately we abandoned all that cultural fuel. I believe that without it we will find the system can no longer self sustain. It is why many push for what I argue are lesser economic systems without knowing why

Just a little side bar. I reject the political buckets. I’m probably more against capitalism than you. It doesn’t matter though. What I love right now is the leftist/libertarian overlap. These people can work together much better than any of them can with any of the established parties. Also I think there are way more of us people than people even know. If you tell anyone it gives me a little hope, I’ll deny it

Yes but also no? I know people who softly identity as libertarians but are probably more independent. They aren’t particularly political though and pretty misinformed It’s not hard to drill down with policy talk to realize they aren’t actually libertarians but if I say “fuck libertarians” it would be unhelpful Say this from my own experience. When I was a teenager, I kind of identified as libertarian but I came of voting age in Los Angeles 1992. It changed the trajectory of my politics forever. They still are evolving. I think there are a lot of people like that out there like this
