Spain’s solar market is collapsing, and virtually every major developer is selling off its panels because no one can make money during the hours when the sun is out. At the same time, the Spanish government is preparing to start shutting down the country’s nuclear plants. https://www.elespanol.com/invertia/empresas/energia/20250425/colapso-fotovoltaico-espana-gw-proyectos-solares-cuelgan-cartel-vende-precios-hundidos/1003743728661_0.html

Could be corporate solar farming industry is collapsing because people are installing their own solar panels for the savings and tax cuts. I think solar power is moving from corporate hands to the people as solar panels are getting cheaper and gov regulations for installation are loosening (ie. permit not required or much easier to get) I see tons of brand new buildings with solar panels fitted on the roof. (I don’t know if it’s a developer requirement, tax benefit, or both.)

Virtual power plants offer a lot of promise with rooftop panels but typically these are insufficient to deliver electricity at the scale needed to power an industrial economy, especially as electrification and AI and the need for air conditioning to survive climate change drive up the need for more electricity. Utility-scale solar projects offer a lot of promise but clearly the financials aren’t great for investors at the moment.
