I don’t think there’s been a bigger comeback story in tech history than Apple Maps going from a punchline to making Google Maps on iOS look like a buggy piece of 2015 trash.

Wait is this true? I haven’t tried in a while. The directions are comparable? My problem with Apple Maps was always their suggested routes were horrible.

I default to Google Maps, butttt Apple Maps has a better UI when driving, take notice folks! They even draw in the bits of trees between highway ramps for better orientation.

Maps was my first job at Apple in 2015 and I remember the ridicule that came with it, including the famous Silicon Valley quip “it’s Apple Maps bad.” But the plans were ambitious and right, and we just had to be patient. Gradatim ferociter.

If it only applies to countries other than USA, etc. In India, Android + iOS swarms inform better travel time. Google is much more aware of Local context and correctly responds with alternate routes and voice!

Even more inexplicable because Google owns Waze, which is even better than Apple Maps imo. Like...you have the answer, why aren't you using it?

I haven’t used Apple maps in a long time. Like others have mentioned their directions had literally taken me off course and added significant time to my trips on multiple occasions. Will have to revisit! 🗺️
