very much a skill issue. there’s about a dozen people in the world who can make a PWA that’s not awful. if they package it up in a react native webview you wouldn’t be able to tell

same about react native apps not being built to the highest standards by virtue of most entry level tutorials sucking I have no idea of frontend, but see the high latency in the animations of getting started videos. Quality >> quantity in this case, but very high noise for people starting out

+1 just take linear for a spin as a pwa to feel closer to heaven

One of the many issues would be the toolchain. But I agree, we don't care anymore about building high-performance apps in any field, basically because the hardware is cheap and we take for granted that all our software will be running on infinite RAM and disk space. Which is not the case.

Is there a telltale sign that shows a PWA is packaged in a react native webview?

I have scars from 2010 web manifest and a launch app built with PhoneGap for the first Android tablet. Def a skill issue, but in most cases not worth the distribution and engagement tradeoffs. Frameworks could help address the skill issue. But OSes still constrain the value of PWAs. The web will forever lag native.

Friend.tech (a pwa) is a lot better than many Android apps along many dimensions.

I don’t know if that’s a defense of PWAs. I appreciate PWAs for what they are, frequently a very decent compromise. It’s not that they are magical. It’s that you’re shooting for good enough and the alternative is unacceptable. 🤷🏽‍♂️
