server workers are dangerous if you don’t know what you’re doing. gonna be an interesting time in the frontend scene when people fuck up their whole deployments from offline caching 😬

1. you write unsafe code that doesn’t have the cache update mechanism set up correctly

or

2. you overwrite a site without unregistering the old service worker

if that happens you need to upload a sw nuke with the same filename that the old site had and keep it online until all of your users get a chance to nuke it

you have to force unregister the service worker on every client device separately and set it up again

Is there no mechanism to force clients to re-fetch?

They sure are! And "sticky" to unload when you have eff'ed them up.

coupled with deep paranoia and fear of the foot-gun that is inexplicable caching strategies 🤯
