Excruciatingly obvious lesson in retrospect:

On a consumer app, every screen needs to have at least one very clear action that the user can take.

“What do I do next?” is a failure state.

Even when you seed the wallet, go to OpenSea, pick a collection, pay gas costs, wait for the transaction, and then own your first NFT.

“What do I do next?”

Maybe the core challenge: A wallet is generalized and unopinionated, but telling the user what to do next requires specific preferences.

I think this failure state is what people are actually describing when they say Web3 has a bad UX.

Even when you’re past the scary seed phrases, you see an empty wallet.

I think this is because good protocols maximize flexibility

But good products minimize cognitive load

Flexibility is cognitive load (it’s literally a larger search space)
