jesse: if Yon launched gdupi today as a ‘content coin’ on Zora, would it be considered a success? would it validate your thesis about content coins + zora? yon has earned (going by today’s prices) >$25,000 from $GDUPI rewards total creator rewards on (post-coin) zora are ~$460,000 Yon has individually earned ~5.5% of creator rewards earned by ~all~ zora coin creators. he is incredible btw, as you know and we’ve discussed. he earned these rewards because of his own exceptional efforts, talent, with some minor help on our side with distribution. just trying to understand: what about Yon’s experience leads you to believe that many more coins = a better model for artists? he basically did the opposite of some of the content coin stuff you’ve describe. Yon very much stepped up to seize the opportunity / obligation of creating cool work around the coin. and what about it tells you zora is the platform to help them do so vs. clanker? slightly confused as to the reference there.

and like none of this is to be fake about the realities here - I know that Yon cares about this, I know Jesse does too, I know that I actually am just authentically confused because to me this is probably a bad example to use for why creators should tokenize more (as a strategy)

no! that's the opposite of what I'm saying. putting aside where $gdupi is launched, I think it's good/viable to have a long running creator coin! what I'm trying to tease out is how do you reliably close the attention -> demand loop. I think there's potentially a path to doing that with creating content where you use that infinite game of content to drive value back to the long running creator coin. two ways I could imagine this working: 1. create content in the form of open edition NFTs, have it be mintable with $gdupi. this creates demand for gdupi, but unclear if there's sustainable demand for pure patronage at scale in this model 2. create content in the form of erc20s, pair it with $gdupi (a la what mint.club has been experimenting with). this also creates demand and I currently have a thesis could be more long term sustainable. my north star is how do we enable creators to create content as an infinite game, while letting the attention they capture drive value back to them. does that make sense?

I really want to experiment with the clanker / empire builder / art drop / artist model, but I’m afraid I’m not really popular enough to make it worthwhile … anyway I’m waiting for clanker v4 so take your time.

i look at zora coins as ephemeral. a way to earn a little bit of money from the ephemeral content you post on the internet everyday. if a yon pumped out art everyday, coining each one, then maybe it tops gdupi at some point. but its unproven. a $gdupi is long term. different playbooks. yet to be seen if the fate of content coins in their current state is to be forgotten and flatline. but maybe the point of them is not to retain a monetary value over time for most artists.

I think a “hybrid” approach for selling content might work. $BUU did something like this back in the fall with a raffle style entry for pfp art was priced in $BUU & $SOL; if you didn’t have BUU you could one click a sol price and it would swap to BUU as part of the ticket. What was unique in my mind is it created an income stream in an asset other than the meme token, while also driving demand for the token. Ultimately pricing in a meme token for the creator means they have to sell the token to receive revenue which isn’t great imo. Personally think if Yon wanted to he could drive demand for gdupi with one of ones etc priced in usdc and gdupi and or eth and gdupi. Also think 404s can be explored here, where artists could charge a fee upon redemption of nfts - though that goes back to using the underlying asset. If I’m yon or another artist w a legit following I’m not keen to split trading fees a la Zora; I want the lion share for artists. https://x.com/buu_solana/status/1853453799337373907

My understanding was he was saying that having utility is the only reliable way to drive demand, but there is probably another way to do that and that’s what Zora is working on. I think clanker is experimenting around this too but I didn’t interpret him as suggesting Zora would be better for $gdupi . So far gdupi has been basically a pure menacing which is great but yon doesn’t have the kind of control he seems to be looking for with that model

Zora clearly worked for Yon, but does that mean it scales for others too?

Read through the threads and it's really quite simple if your a creator you want to bring value to your community the secret is this..just keep making art and building the world you envision don't create multiple coins to draw people back to the main that's confusing as hell. Make one coin one project and just keep building on it. Build a brand around. Merch, plushies, books, stickers, NFTs even. Get people involved in the story telling aspect of it. It's what im doing with $CRITTER and my Geo Critters. Do i know much about being a dev...no but i know what it takes to be a successful artist if I didn't i wouldn't have sold 100K worth of my art in 5 years or been in 3 museums. Have to do the work and have fun with it. Keep it simple not all over the place.

Sharing my points here- using both. its kind of different on some ways. CLANKERS - still better for Meme x Community x Project ecosystem or Focused on crypto degens ZORA - for now on current setup- this is for bringing typical normie from Web2 to Web3. Imagine a person with cooking niche having more traction in web3
