Drove an electric car for the first time on vacation last week. I didn’t like it. Taking your foot off the gas is basically the same as hitting the brake. I’d get used to it if I owned one, but it was an unexpected experience.

That's a setting you can change on most cars. It sounds like it was set to "one-pedal" driving for max regen. You can also set it to feel much more like an ICE vehicle (and use regular brakes.) I prefer one pedal, but I can definitely see it being a little jarring for first time EV drivers.

Once you get used to it this becomes a great feature and going back to a regular car feels weird. The key is to not take your foot entirely off the pedal but to slowly ween off the accelerator which slows the car

I really enjoyed driving one on vacation, but it was an awful experience having to recharge it. So stressful.

You get used to it pretty quickly and a good tradeoff for the acceleration

That’s actually one of my favorite things about driving electric. You just have to get used to it. It’s great in the city, but on the freeway I usually turn it off
