I don't think I have the dedication to grow an audience, but it seems relatively straightforward if you're willing to grind. For example, my Substack newsletter, with 0 effort at all, gets a couple of new subscribers every month and I don't write there anymore. Imagine if I worked at it.

My problem with the grind is not the work that goes into it but the placating to the algorithm that determines my grind. It's demoralizing in a way that non-algorithmic endeavors aren't.
