I think we have a very complicated relationship with the word "work". One hack I learned in my early teens is to refer to everything I do as "work", especially when family is asking what you're doing. Reminds me of when I moved from Toronto to the Bay Area, it was jarring to notice that everyone referred to everything as "a startup" that in Toronto we'd just call "a project"

I think a more expansive definition of work is helpful. Lowers the stakes to find the dream job. But also can carry tons of baggage. Riffed on this quite a bit in my latest book
