There’s nothing inherently wrong with work that doesn’t solve problems. It’s art or research or play, depending on where it’s conducted.

One of my kids went to a Montessori preschool. I remember chuckling at one of their values:

“Freedom to Play; Freedom to Work”

But it did highlight that work and play have an interesting relationship, and for kids (and lucky adults) sometimes are the same thing

I think we have a very complicated relationship with the word "work". One hack I learned in my early teens is to refer to everything I do as "work", especially when family is asking what you're doing.

Reminds me of when I moved from Toronto to the Bay Area, it was jarring to notice that everyone referred to everything as "a startup" that in Toronto we'd just call "a project"
