The shift from podcasts being about audio to video is underpriced.

Do you think it's the video component that is important - or the network effects and user-muscle-memory of the delivery channel (YouTube)?

Damn, this is so interesting.
As a medium it feels different.  TV wasn't long form audio (it evolved quickly from initial skeuomorphism "radio with pictures") where as podcasts are essentially just vocal/conversations so the cameras add the "eyes" and "facial expressions".  Perhaps that as an evolutionary tug.

I think that YouTube doesn't require a subscription and you can use an ad-blocker. You can't use an ad-blocker on Radio or TV. 
Also, I'd like to know whose watching the stream the whole time. I use YouTube like Spotify during my day but with DJs spinning sets.
