I loved the part about how, for decades, every TV writing room wanted to use quicksand and it was just so cultural taboo as a cringe trope. Even Lost, where it would have been super appropriate device, could get it in the script. Cultural zeitgeist taboos are fascinating, for me in large part because they are almost completely invisible at the time, and become clearer and clearer as we move forward and look back at our shared collective hallucination on “whats culture now”

Certainly hindsight is a funny thing when you look all sorts of cultures, especially pop culture. Fashion/style always seems so funny to me cause each decade seems to be unique in that regard and typically people will continue dressing however they dressed in their late teens.
