I loved the part about how, for decades, every TV writing room wanted to use quicksand and it was just so cultural taboo as a cringe trope. Even Lost, where it would have been super appropriate device, could get it in the script. Cultural zeitgeist taboos are fascinating, for me in large part because they are almost completely invisible at the time, and become clearer and clearer as we move forward and look back at our shared collective hallucination on βwhats culture nowβ
