This was a fun read. Brilliant world-building and fun characters…if a little too one dimensional at times. The book is eco-conscious and patriarchal, but is self-aware on both counts. I’ll read more Brin for sure

“wallet” is for fiat what “phone” is to boomers. i.e. the word has wildly different connotations depending on who you’re speaking to. i’m asking the choir, but: should we find new term for what wallets (as FC understands them) do? or just wait for the outside to catch up/die out a la “phone”?

If one has been informed they are no longer a candidate for a position, is it always bad form to protest? Assuming one is civil and professional at all times, must one necessarily abide the decisions of HR? Or is it ever a positive to, kindly, present a counterpoint?
