i think the ability to recognize good work (i.e. i know what good code looks like) is key junior ppl that know when something is good enough to ship (or whether to keep going, ask questions, communicate status) is super rare and a very important indicator that they are ready for more responsibility

I think this kid overestimates the expectations of an intern. But also definitely underestimated their own abilities to find solutions, even without technical skills and just how far that can get you in some places.
