Not sure, but it's something I hear a lot. If I had to guess, it's because of arbitrary gatekeeping (ironic, given the decentralization value prop of removing gatekeepers). And intellectual hubris. And an inability to reach outside of established early adopter circles.

If i'm going to answer honestly: Historically it has been hard for the same reason hiring in any bleeding edge industry is hard: You need to sell people on your value props. Employees at this stage are joining for vision, upside, culture etc. For those that aren't yet bought...

this takes some selling. Combine this with the fact that most people were interacting with the space via reading about scams or buying random things to try to get rich (if you're lucky) and it means that the pool of actually qualified people who are *interested in leaving their jobs for you* is smaller than expected.

Today I think this problem is starting to solve itself. I've been working at Dapper Labs (on Flow) for a year now and we're basically hiring people away from Amazon, Google, Dropbox, etc etc. The old incumbents are now much less interesting to the *excellent* engineers and they're looking for new things.
