Not sure, but it's something I hear a lot. If I had to guess, it's because of arbitrary gatekeeping (ironic, given the decentralization value prop of removing gatekeepers). And intellectual hubris. And an inability to reach outside of established early adopter circles.

The venn diagram of really good at your craft and really interested in web3 doesn't have a ton of folks in the middle. Most of my mentors have suggested waiting at least another five yrs to see if crypto even survives. Many could be great at web3 but aren't interested rn

If i'm going to answer honestly: Historically it has been hard for the same reason hiring in any bleeding edge industry is hard: You need to sell people on your value props. Employees at this stage are joining for vision, upside, culture etc. For those that aren't yet bought...
