we're in a newly built house and ants are coming from the weirdest places, like from underneath a small crack in the baseboard in my office. not even food in here

I'm going to second on the recommendation for Terro. We literally had ants crawling across the ceiling in a line for weeks. Terro laid out in spots where they were hanging out over time. Eventually removed them. But keep in mind the goal is to slowly kill off the entire colony so it takes a long time to work.

i had so many ants at my house in north park until i put a vermicompost bin outside. then the ants all started detouring there every year. didn't come to the house anymore

i also did a cayenne perimeter but i have doubts that it was actually effective lol

I follow them to where they live and then poison their home.
