Who else is excited about the torpedo bats in baseball? Not just for baseball, but for what they mean for innovation, as I write in a new short essay. https://om.co/2025/04/04/a-torpedo-bat-of-innovation/

i think the torpedo bat is a great innovation, but wont be as impactful as currently hyped. hitting is about timing. pitching is about upsetting that timing. pitchers will adjust. and torpedo bats still mostly account for a small subset of batted balls. fangraphs also noted that moving the barrel towards the handle could slow the speed of the barrel at point of contact which may negate gains from the increase exit velocity. torpedo bats benefit hitters who move the barrel further from the handle increasing both bat speed at point of contact and exit velocity.
