I just posted some photos from a recent visit to Vietnam. Some of them were featured on Leica’s IG feed as well. https://om.co/category/reflections-on-photography/

AI's reshaping the internet's core. Edge computing, hyper-regionalization, and privacy concerns are forcing a complete rethink of network architecture. Cloudflare's betting on a "connectivity cloud" to bridge the gap. The future internet? It's local, fast, and regulated. Buckle up. My long interview with Cloudflare CEO Matthew Prince https://crazystupidtech.com/archive/future-of-internet-in-the-age-of-ai/

This channels idea is a great one. In a way sub-Reddit with some clarity and options for mods to monetize! Well done @dwr.eth @v

Damn, while I was away, following a channel got replaced by “members” only sharing. I guess no more SF tips and photography contributions in those two channels. 🤷🏽‍♂️

Ocean Rescue! This is an image that perfectly showcases what you can do with iPhone 16 ProMax's camera + Halide + 5 minutes with Adobe LR. FWIW, I printed this at 16-inch on the short side and it looks perfect!

(I wrote this last night) On the eve of our Independence Day, I can’t help but think of our current political challenges. It doesn’t matter which side of the political aisle you walk. After all, the reality of our collective future doesn’t change, one way or the other. The challenges facing our society, economy and country don’t change with political affiliation. If not this decade, then soon there after, we will be heading into an unknown technological future. I’m not sure anyone knows if the current architecture of our social norms, rules and regulations is likely to survive a future where we humans have to coexist with what you can colloquially call aware machines. What happens when the core norms of current economic systems are eroded because fewer humans are needed for production? Is it time for a post-capitalist economic ideology?

The serendipity is what makes my now hometown so special. In San Francisco, technologies, new ideas, and people collide randomly in the oddest of places, at the oddest of times. Much of this has to do with the density of techies. In a way, that in itself is a self-fulling destiny. During the pandemic, this randomness disappeared, making the place less vibrant than usual. For me, San Francisco will always be more than just a city. Despite our dysfunctional government and corrupt politics, I love being here. You run into new ideas simply by walking in the park. https://om.co/2024/06/26/a-poetic-ai-camera/

Why are so many of my friends down with Covid right now? Feels like SF is having a bit of an outbreak. 😷

Some notable bits I gathered in my internet travels. Think of these as my field notes! Plus, three amazing long reads about the self-checkout disaster, why perpetual recycling of plastic is nonsense, and what went wrong at the Lambda School. Also, the joy of using Dot & Spiral. https://om.co/2024/06/23/weekend-edition-field-notes-june-23-2024/

Tech’s past tells us that the future doesn't unfold along a predetermined timeline. Despite the rocky starts of Humane’s AI Pin & Rabbit’s R1 device, we're heading to a promising era where invisible information interfaces become as commonplace as screens. https://buff.ly/49Z36LB

Cars, flying cars, climate change, and what’s the deal with titanium — these are some long form reads that are worth your time (and attention). I read them over the weekend. https://om.co/2024/04/21/what-i-read-this-weekend/

The Humane vs Media psychodrama is interesting. As an ex-media guy I can see where media folks are coming from. As a founder & ex-VC I can see where the builders are coming from. Reality is in the middle somewhere. I have my own theory -- but sadly it is too nuanced for social media. What are your thoughts?
