Philosophy

As an Eastern European myself, I’m a big fan of Žižek.

Though he’s a respected academic and public figure, to me he perfectly embodies the slavic boomer—a more refined version of that one uncle we all have, who, at every party, drunkenly projects his deeply internalized coping mechanisms for surviving the trauma leviathan born of decades in a Soviet state.

I agree with you (I think? I don't have a slavic uncle lol), but the way he articulates his trauma / his ideas is good enough to be worthwhile! Also, in the screenshot he's not wrong

Also worth mentioning that Zizek drunk at a party should be a sight to behold

Whether he is right or wrong depends on what fits best someone’s personal experience, but that itself stands as a strong counter to his argument 🤣

My personal issue with this idea, and it spans all 3 parts that you made distinct, is that you cannot possibly see the outside world other than as a projection through the lens of what’s inside (Kant). It is no doubt influenced by whatever “shit” you find inside. If what inside is “shit” then what is outside will also be smeared with it. 

Whether you choose to ignore it or to investigate your own consciousness, I think the distinction itself between what is inside and what is outside isn’t so clear or trivial to escape

I think there are 2, possibly 3 statements in that screenshot that just don't make sense together

"I do all my work to escape myself. I don't believe in looking into yourself" > Fair enough

"If you do this, you just discover a lot of shit" > True 

"The truth is not deep in ourselves. The truth is outside" > I think what he's trying to say is that there's only so much you can learn (or do about it) looking inwards; truth is positive-sum, in motion and thus outside the self. Like finding meaning in work
