Not great outcome actually. Going to be very hard to govern on many counts with a minority.

I feel like a dumb American — they won, yes? I can tell you everything about the Electoral College but no clue about Parliament. (I need to study up)

The easiest way to explain parliamentary democracy to Americans is it’s like if the whole government was run by congress. We vote for members of congress (parliament) and the party with the most members, gets to choose the president (prime minister). The most seats below 172/343 is considered a minority because without buy in from other parties, they aren’t guaranteed to be in control. Over 172 seats is a majority and is guaranteed the full 4 years constitutionally due to them. It’s a much better system in my opinion. The US relies on a complete fake pretence of “checks and balances” that falls apart the second you have the same party in all “co-equal branches”
