eat the fruit, spit out the seeds. a good coach should be in and out without much fanfare. as long as they build rapport, identify issues and instill confidence/agency in the team, this can be a net positive. It is just an outside perspective for blindspot illumination.

Good coaches are the best; bad coaches are the worst. Any predictions about which you'll get?

Skepticism is warranted but I’ve seen some incredible coaches who are able to really bring about better ways of working Will you come back and let us know how it goes ?🙃

Do they make it fun? Are they temporary or like a meta PM?

Coaches usually work with multiple teams, while scrum masters stay with one team for longer. The team's value lies in being transparent about their work, open to reflection, and making necessary adjustments based on feedback from the coach. It CAN be confirmation you're doing the right things already :)

Does the coach do themselves out of a job by helping the team become more self-organising and focused on outcomes, or do they make themselves indispensable by managing and control all the work?

Generally I'd say no, but there are some instances where they might provide value: Team is newly formed Team is junior or has a mix of skill levels Coach is very aligned with your org development strat Coach is fun It shouldn't be a forever role in your team, but temporary to coach, educate and move on.

if they never heard about agile then it might make sense but tbh can't understand what agile coaches do all day.

idk your context. if a red tape org, congrats, one more banger added. if a startup, wtf, ngmi — sorry for being blunt maybe they also need a scrum master, program/project manager and a release manager next
