@vgr when you write fiction, do you know where you're going with it or do you often get surprised by the words that arrive on the page?

I've written very little and only a fraction of it has worked, so I don't yet have good process sense of fiction In general, if the thing turns out good, I'm surprised by the words that arrive I'd say I'm mostly pantser, not plotter, and being surprised is part of the dopamine hit for doing fiction at all
