hot take: due to being domain-specific, smart/embedded wallets create more problems than they solve if you have 5 different accounts on 5 different sites and there’s no way to easily unify them, or make them legible as 1 identity, thats broken web2 all over again but with (a lot) worse ux. tf are we doing?

need a higher level solution/integration to unite them towards authenticator/apple passwords or rely on email like warpcast until there's a better solution

on point! privy solved this tho, but seems like we're still in the "one app-one wallet" phase. curious @henri what's needed to make the switch? https://warpcast.com/henri/0xcfde3911

what we are not doing: trying to onboard people to 2 apps at the same time (mission impossible)

smart wallets make sense for businesses and for lowering the barrier to entry for new customers but are bad for ecosystem overall i think

After reading this I opened Fabric website, seems overkill. UI should be intuitive

by smart/embedded i assume you mean smart *and* embedded? bc smart wallets on their own (non-embedded) are fully portable and the UX is improving rapidly

Yes it’s a mess, but healthy competition is the only way. It’ll sort itself out eventually.

Just seems like a coordination problem but Ethereum is good at eventually sorting those out.

Never understood the value prop of embedded wallets. I thought the whole point of web3 is that you bring one wallet into an infinite number of apps

This is what I have been saying the whole time! I love my smart wallet…but its not so smart. My UX is horrible! I have my mobile versions connected to my desktop versions and my other wallets but I still need the other wallets to read what this one cannot. I want a fucking wallet that can just run across the super chain and do everything from ONE wallet only! Lucky I have patience because tradfi will not adopt out tech in this current state. We can do better.

agree / with embedded wallets everywhere this is getting messy super fast @privy might be the closest but even their set up is fragmented by app and type

I think this depends on who your target user is? If you're not targeting a crypto native user, selling folks on multiple (potentially complex and negatively charged) points of friction seems risky, at least compared to applying a familiar mental model (set up an account + payment method)

Gm Jonny Mack, is there a way to transfer my Hypersub subscription NFTs to a different wallet so e.g. /anime-manga connects to the correct wallet ? Via the normal import or send NFT method it says that the contract does not allow this. I did a work around by taking out a 2nd subscription in the correct wallet. 🧩

To Dan’s point — trying to make crypto usable on mobile for folks who just want good products. Long way to go (balancing perms and UX, linking accounts together) but more solutions is net good!
