a couple of years ago i got this book for my dad, who is extremely informed and well-spoken but fell into the “us versus them” trap of politics couldn’t have a respectful political conversation with anyone who didn’t agree with him, they were all idiots https://g.co/kgs/fb4XWD8 1/

Yes. It’s like how being taught to not discuss salary benefits no one but the employer. Difficult conversations are good. Let’s hurt each others feelings and piss each other off. Just remember that the other person is a human and be big enough to apologize when you know you’ve been an ass.

I’ve found outside the states that we are able to have these type of conversations much more easily. Curious if this applies more to American/Western discourse or if the aversion is spreading.
