Very unpopular opinion: I don't celebrate anyone being thrown into the US's for-profit, inhumane prison system, no matter the crime. I welcome them being off the streets, but any human being put in the US prison system is a travesty criminals should be rehabilitated, not made worse w mental distress and dehumanization

afaik, it's always been like this in the US. I've only been around a few decades tho. It's far worse since the war on drugs and rise of private prisons. US prisons have (mostly) always been inhumane and in service of insidious goals Dno about other places. I've also heard positive things about some Scandavian prisons

Unpopular opinion but the vast majority of prisoners are victims themselves. Physical, psychological or sexual abuse at home or in an institution. Poor access to mental healthcare. Seeking solace in drugs or gangs. The Israeli-Hamas conflict highlights that you can be both victim and perpetrator. People are complex.
