Very unpopular opinion: I don't celebrate anyone being thrown into the US's for-profit, inhumane prison system, no matter the crime. I welcome them being off the streets, but any human being put in the US prison system is a travesty

afaik, it's always been like this in the US. I've only been around a few decades tho. It's far worse since the war on drugs and rise of private prisons. US prisons have (mostly) always been inhumane and in service of insidious goals

Dno about other places. I've also heard positive things about some Scandavian prisons

In the US, the majority of prisons are run by private companies contracted by the government. They frequently provide subpar healthcare, facilities, staff, and care that lead to the deaths of inmates. The people who profit have the ears of congress and have an interest in imprisoning as many people as possible
