Every artist in the world dreams of performing at the Grammys. Since I was a kid, I had been manifesting it, and two years ago, it happened. I was invited to perform with my favorite singer, John Legend. I actually didn’t know what I was in for until about five days before the show. I couldn’t believe it when the CEO of the Grammys called and invited me to sing. I was in shock, but I was also exhausted. It all happened after cancer, a failed IVF attempt, and just as the war in Ukraine had begun. I performed, but mentally, I wasn’t ready for any of it. After the performance, I wanted to hide and not respond to anyone. I ended up losing my voice for a month, too. My point is that our mental health and overall well-being are incredibly important. If either is struggling, we’re not truly ready to enjoy our dreams when they become reality. That’s why I will always be the biggest advocate for mental health. Please take care of yourself—so when your dreams come true, you’re ready to enjoy them!

The critical takeaway here isn't about memecoins. It's that the SEC's interpretation of Howey continues to be that an investment contract may exist based on the "economic reality" of an arrangement. The SEC's recent optimistic approach to the industry and the dismissal of many of its cases has led a lot of people to believe that "everything is legal". That's particularly true because most of the cases the SEC has been dropping/settling involved arguments by the defendants that, rather than "economic reality," Howey's investment contract analysis hinged on whether there was a formal contract. So, if the dismissals were a sign that the SEC was accepting of this "predicate contract" argument (and abandoning the "economic reality" argument), nearly every token in existence would be legal. This release confirms the SEC doesn't believe "everything is legal" and that's a good thing.

No. And I'm also not a capitalist. Both are 20th century ideologies. (And they are words that have been stretched and abused to the point of meaninglessness: remember, in the 1990s, Microsoft called Linux "communist": https://www.theregister.com/2000/07/31/ms_ballmer_linux_is_communism/ ) I support freedom, global equality of opportunity, kindness and cooperation, human welfare and progress. These are timeless principles. The question is how to use the tools we have available to achieve these values in the context of the 21st century. I've written at length about the kinds of mechanisms I personally support, but I definitely do not think that I am the only source of good ideas, I think figuring out the best approach is a shared project of both thinking and also increasingly real world experimentation.

This is a solid demonstration of Railgun's privacy pools mechanism working in practice, allowing Railgun to avoid serving proceeds of crime without using any snooping / backdoors. How it works: * Anyone can deposit into Railgun. * After you deposit, there is a 1 hour period during which various algorithms detect whether or not the deposit likely came from what the algorithms consider to be criminal activity. * If your deposit passes the filter, then after 1 hour you can use ZKPs to withdraw privately (but ideally wait longer to get a good-enough anonymity set). * If your deposit fails the filter, then you can only withdraw back to your own address. There is no risk that your funds will get frozen/seized, you just can't benefit from the privacy pool. If you disagree with Railgun's filters, anyone is free to fork and make their own pool with their own rules, though if you can't get reasonably wide public support you're going to have a tiny anonymity set. https://x.com/officer_cia/status/1889642583971733983

One way to characterize an era, is to look at the extent to which ideas of "scientific rationality" and "freedom" are pulling in the same direction, vs in opposite directions. The answer flips back and forth surprisingly often! https://chatgpt.com/share/67abbbff-fec8-8012-b772-bade8a93c8b7 In more modern times, I feel like I've noticed a rapid shift from the 2010s, when the two were aligned (eg. see SSC rationalism) to the 2020s, where the two are perceived to be quite a bit more at odds with each other.
