Very skeptical reading Story Protocol docs overview. Can anyone tell me why this is real?

Great question! Cofounder here. The ideas we presented in our vision + docs can be pretty abstract. Would love to break it down for you, let me know what you think.

Having worked in a creative industry and dealing with how difficult it is to license IP / create derivative works legally, I can see how this is useful.

I read it last year when they announced it but it's in my queue to reread it since I don't recall the details. @eddy, @sriramk.eth, @cdixon.eth amongst others are listed in the vision so they might be able to answer your question. I'm also a bit surprised about how much they've raised and the team size.

Tried to read it a few times and never clicked. But seems like a lot of smart ppl are bullish on it and idea on paper is cool

i think it mostly hinges on whether you think this skeuomorphic notion of IP extends onchain possible but not super likely

i’m ngl i have never understood what story protocol even is — i feel like they are using all this abstract language to describe what comes down to just a framework for NFT issuance?

Big problem is they let a bunch of marketing gobblygoop into their technical docs. Took me forever to actually wrap my head around it

Imagine Warner Bros drops a new IP... show, game, movie, whatever... and all the promo content leans heavily on user generated content. With onchain tech, anyone remixing or co-creating with that IP could automatically share revenue as their content goes viral. (kinda like fan tokens 😊) Picture Google’s Content ID doing this for Mr Beast, every remix sends a cut to his wallet on the same chain! Sure, licensing complexities exist but WB would hopefully set aside a percentage for the creators who made the content when WB decides to go fully onchain, making it a win-win for everyone. Onchain could redefine how IP and UGC coexist! 🚀🎬🎮
