That’s incredible 👏 I too started squatting this year. I have outrageously weak legs and working up to my goal of 4x6 225, time span of 1 year What was causing the pain do you don’t mind me asking

Waited Didn’t stop moving — walked and took on as much activity as I could within reasonable limits despite pain. Get the blood going in the area, don’t stay still Worked my midline and hips a lot. Lots of hip openers, planks, deadbugs, shoulder taps with feet on the bench, sitting overhead holds. McGill Big 3

I’ll try the bits of that I can still do without spasms. Gonna have to google deadbugs. My whiskey/weed regimen is increasingly less effective.

DYOR, not a doctor! Doing dead bugs even gave me acute relief in the chronic pain moments. Something about how engaging your abdominals that way protects your spine He’s not without controversy. Consults with doctors go like this: “Well… that sucks” “Yup” “We could do surgery but it doesn’t guarantee a good outcome and could make it worse” “Oh” “Want drugs?” “Na, got a guy for that already”

Yeah sounds about right I rly resisted doctor for this reason. I wound up getting MRI to confirm the injury just to make sure the pain truly originated from my spine and not something wrong with my organs. I felt like they were pain pill pushing on me whole time. Where I came out is like .. ok I know I have these herniations. And I know by end of life almost everyone has this damage but most feel no pain. So why do I feel SO MUCH pain. And part of it I swear (and I know this sounds woo) was just reacclimating my body to movements, retraining my brain to stop firing the pain signal when I wasn’t in danger

My biggest problem is that I get debilitating muscle spasms due to all the damage. Like, stuck on my back for days + new nerve damage debilitating. They trigger randomly but I associate them with periods in which I’m active and excercise or do lots of physical chores/work. So I’m always on the hunt for low impact exercises that don’t involve shifting my center of mass forward or behind my feet. Ok I’m probably oversharing my bad.

Chiming in: Forget famous exercises, keep trying new exercises until you find something you can do 2-3x a week without pain. I was swimming, but if I went more then once a week my foot nerve pain would come back Funny thing is I can jui jitsu three times a week without pain (I get sore but not the injury kind) so I do that and weights once a week If I ever feel any bad strain I stop. 🛑 You need to find yours. I also felt small, repetitive, no weight movements helped build strength and avoid injuries. Literally like primary school movements. I do arm circles each day, I do wall angels, I do the big 3. The feeling I’ve learned is helpful to me is “a muscle that’s just tired, not worn out”. Like do arm circles for a minute and feel the back of your shoulders. It’s tired. Those muscles are growing, that blood is flowing. But those examples work for me you need to find what works for you and keep pushing through new issues till you find the root cause

No it’s okay. With the nerve stuff I truly don’t know how to advise. My dad has that and it seems super painful. He’s trying all this stuff like acupuncture and steroid shots. I just walked to move. Walked and lifted around it
