Considering this industry is supposedly all about freedom, it's curious we talk about it so little.

Maybe. I do think people underestimate the need for humans to find meaning and the importance of some myth or illusions to help us reconcile forces pulling us into different directions that don't just translate neatly into data.

I had a corse at uni called "self awareness and consciousness". We talked about things like materialism and free will a lot. And indeed there's not an answer to these ones, just what a scientist believes. But I don't think that finding this out is impossible. In my opinion, it's possible in the future. But possible doesn't mean I'll happen, of course.
