“Discipline” gets a bad wrap. It is not passive rigidity and thoughtless habit. Real discipline is very active. Actively constraining yourself, even when you don’t have to, especially when you don’t have to, all for the sake of staying clear-sighted toward your end and efficient in your movements.

I think discipline is also about convincing yourself that you can be a disciplined person. And that starts small imo, saying, I'll do this every day for 10 minutes... and then doing it, which reinforces the idea that, wow I can actually do this and one builds from there. It is definitely active, but I feel it does get easier once you got past a certain mental state of "I'm not that type of person" to thinking of it more like a muscle you train and it gets easier over time.

And I think activeness becomes more pleasant the more you do it. Activeness is life.
